Fitted furniture is measured to the room it goes in, not the other way round. An alcove either side of a chimney breast is rarely the same width as the one in the photo a customer has seen online, a ceiling can drop a few centimetres from one end of a wall to the other, and a media wall built to hide cabling has to work with whatever socket and aerial positions the room already has. That is why a fitted job starts with more than a site visit: the design that gets drawn up, whether as a pen sketch or an AI-generated visual, is drawn against the actual space rather than a standard size.

Bespoke joinery covers the piece a fitted range does not: a freestanding unit built for one specific spot, a run of shelving that has to step around a boiler or a meter cupboard, or trim that has to match doors and skirting fitted elsewhere in the same house. The material choice matters as much as the design. We only use materials we trust and can rely on, and would rather not take a job on than use the wrong ones for it, whether that is a manufactured board that will not hold a heavy TV bracket or a timber that will not sit well against an existing skirting profile.

What moves the price on a fitted furniture job is the size of the piece, the number of units, the finish (painted, veneered or solid timber), how much of the existing room needs to change to fit it, and access to the property. None of that can be priced honestly from a photo, which is why every job here is quoted after a visit rather than against a fixed figure: a number that has not seen the room is a number the quote then has to explain away.

The same carpenter measures, designs and fits the piece, bringing in help only on the bigger jobs, so nothing is lost between the person who took the measurements and the person cutting the material. If the same house needs doors, skirting or flooring finished to match, that runs alongside the fitted furniture rather than as a separate job with a separate trade to coordinate.
