A new staircase means the existing one comes out and a replacement goes in, built to fit your stairwell exactly rather than a stock flight adjusted to squeeze into the gap. We measure the opening, agree the design with you, whether that is a straight flight, a winder, or something with a landing, and build it in a timber agreed before anything is ordered. 01We measure and design it with you
A site visit to measure the stairwell and headroom, then a design agreed before anything is cut, using sketches, drawings, or AI-generated visuals so you can see it before it is built.
02We build and fit it
The old staircase comes out and the new one goes in, with floor and access protection down and dust extraction running for the whole time it is in your house.
03You are left with a finished staircase
Checked over and signed off with you before we leave. If something is not right after we have finished, we come back and put it right.

The cost of a new staircase is driven by what is actually involved: the size and shape of the stairwell, whether the layout is changing, the timber specified, and how much of the surrounding floor, wall or ceiling has to be opened up to fit it. A straight flight replaced like for like is a different job from a staircase moved to change the layout of a floor, which is why a bespoke staircase is priced after a visit rather than from a standard list.
Building regulations set minimum requirements for rise, going and headroom on a staircase, and an older house does not always meet them as built. Staircase installation in a period property often means working within an opening that was never designed to current standards, which is part of what a survey is for: to agree, before anything is ordered, whether the existing opening works as it is or needs adjusting.

How much does a new staircase cost?

Can you fit a new staircase without changing the layout of the house?
That depends on your opening, which is what the site visit and measure are for. The design is agreed with you before anything is cut.
What is the difference between a new staircase and a staircase renovation?
A new staircase replaces the structure, so it suits a layout change or one that has failed. A renovation keeps the structure and changes the surface, treads, risers or cladding, which suits a staircase that is sound but looks tired.
Do you fit staircases in older houses?
We survey the opening before we quote. Older properties can have openings that were not built to current standards, so any adjustment needed is agreed before the design is fixed, not discovered on the day.
