What decking installation involves
Decking installation means building a raised, level timber platform in the garden: a treated timber sub-frame set out and levelled first, then timber or composite boards fixed on top. It suits a garden where the ground slopes, where the lawn has worn through by the back door, or where you simply want a level, low-upkeep space off the house. The sub-frame is what nobody sees once the job is finished, and it is what actually decides how long the deck lasts.

Three stages, in this order, before a single board is fixed.
01We visit and talk it through
A site visit to look at the ground, talk through timber or composite, and measure up properly. Normally more than one visit before anything is agreed.
02It is designed, then built on site
Drawings or sketches are agreed first, then the sub-frame is built and levelled before the boards go down, with the garden and access route protected throughout.
03You are left with a finished deck
The site is left tidy at the end of the job. If something is not right once it is finished, we come back and put it right.

Every deck is priced after a visit
The size, the ground it is going on, access to the garden and timber versus composite all move the price. A written quote only goes out once we have actually seen the job.

Will the garden be left in a state?

What if the ground is not level, or it is soft?
The sub-frame is built and levelled to suit the ground it is going on. That is looked at properly on the site visit, before anything is quoted.
What if something is not right once it is finished?
If something is not right after we have finished, we come back and put it right.

A deck lives or dies on what happens underneath it, not on the boards you can see. The sub-frame needs timber treated for the job, kept clear of standing water and given room to breathe underneath, or it starts to fail well before the boards on top do. We would rather not do the job than use the wrong materials for it, whether that is the treated timber underneath or the boards on top. Composite boards are more forgiving of moisture than timber, but they still sit on a timber or steel frame that has to be built properly underneath, so the choice between them changes the finish and the upkeep, not the groundwork.
A garden deck may not need planning permission, but a deck built high off the ground, close to a boundary, or attached to a house in a conservation area can need approval. It is worth checking with the local council before work starts rather than after.
