The job

What the brief asked for, and what a shop floor demands

The brief was a bar and a front-of-house counter for a clothing brand's store: a fitting piece that also had to survive daily footfall, knocks and constant use. That is a different job from a piece of furniture built for a house. Once on site, the real constraint was building around a live retail space without holding up the fit-out around it. We only use materials we trust for the job in hand, so the counter was specified and built to take the wear a shop floor gives it, not just to look right on the day it opened.
